Pharmacy First

Between July and October 2024, we asked 220 local residents about their awareness and experiences with the Pharmacy First service, launched in early 2024. This service allows pharmacists to prescribe medicines for seven common health conditions without needing to see a GP.

Here’s what we found:

  • 55% of people knew about Pharmacy First
  • 66% said they would consider using it in the future
  • 27% had already used it, with 80% being happy with the service

People liked how quick and easy it is to access pharmacies. However, some raised concerns about privacy and confidence in getting the right diagnosis.

To make the service even better, we suggest increasing awareness, especially among younger people, men, and minority ethnic groups. We’ll also work on highlighting the benefits and ensuring people know about private consultation areas in pharmacies.
