Home Care Workers’ Views on Infection Prevention and Flu Vaccines

Home care workers support people who may be more vulnerable to infection, making infection prevention and flu vaccination especially important.

In November 2025, we gathered feedback from home care workers across Derbyshire to understand their experiences of infection prevention and flu vaccinations, including what works well and where improvements are needed.

What home care workers told us

Home care workers highlighted a strong awareness of the importance of infection prevention, particularly when supporting people in their own homes. Many felt a sense of responsibility to protect themselves, the people they support, and their colleagues.

However, workers also described challenges, including practical barriers to accessing flu vaccines, time pressures, and inconsistent information or support. Some felt clearer communication and better access would help improve uptake.

Why this matters

Supporting home care workers with clear information and accessible vaccination options helps protect staff, the people they care for, and the wider community.

What happens next

We have shared our findings with local partners to help inform future planning and improvements. Our recommendations aim to strengthen support for home care workers and improve access to flu vaccination and infection prevention resources across Derbyshire.
