Living Well

Living Well is a new approach to mental health support in the community which is being developed across Derbyshire. The aim is to bring together professionals with all different skills to give people the right support when they need it.

Working together as one team in different areas of the county and city, we focus on the whole person’s needs. This is probably the biggest change that will happen to mental health services for decades, and therefore one of the biggest opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

"I started volunteering with Healthwatch Derbyshire as a psychology student at the University of Derby. I feel that volunteering and being part of project planning and focus groups has improved my communication skills and boosted my confidence. It has added to my CV and provided me with a positive work experience."

"I applied to Healthwatch Derbyshire as I felt my knowledge and skills would help with their aim of ensuring local services are provided in the best way possible. I am proud to have played a key role in the mystery shop at Chesterfield Royal Hospital which prompted changes to the hospital’s outpatients departments and to have worked on a project looking at Home Care Services."

“Being an Expert by Experience gives me a voice to help improve services for people like myself in the future. As someone who has suffered with depression and anxiety disorders for many years I can share some of my experience to improve the care of others, but at the same time it makes me feel I have a purpose"

"Making important changes to how mental health services are delivered in Derbyshire affects everyone from service users to healthcare professionals. These changes aren't a business or profit making, this is changing people’s lives for the better, if we all team together and get it RIGHT this time round!"

Supporting Experts to attend local Collaboratives

Collaboratives are the spaces where the design and development work for mental health services takes place. Experts sit alongside voluntary sector, NHS and social care workers to have a say in how these services take shape. This is a paid opportunity for Experts.

Giving everyone a voice

We listen to different communities’ needs in relation to the new service. We highlight these needs and encourage a wide range of people to have their say. One of the ways we do this is by supporting lived experience forums where people have a voice.

Invaluable insights

We gather feedback from the first few clients in each area, who have used the new service. This helps the new service to learn from this feedback. We then let clients know how their feedback has made a difference.

Championing involvement

We champion the voices of lived experience in every aspect of this change. We also highlight any barriers to involvement that people may face, and produce tools to educate and inspire, like our Good Practice Guide.
